The thin-strapped Casio or Citizen watch was favoured by working Tamil women of the 1980s and 1990s. It was easily paired with office or traditional wear, and other gold jewellery.
Such watches marked the responsibilities of the Tamil working mother, managing both work and home, the family’s schedule and her own.
