‘Thamizhachi’
‘தமிழச்சி’
This Tamil term combines ‘Thamizh’ (Tamil) and the feminine suffix ‘achi’ to denote the Tamil woman. Used colloquially, the term carries a variety of shifting connotations, including marking one as ‘gung-ho about being Tamil, ‘(overly) traditional and homely’, or even as ‘unruly’.
இந்த தமிழ் சொல், தமிழ் பெண்ணைக் குறிக்கும் வகையில் ‘தமிழ்’ மற்றும் ‘ஆச்சி’ எனும் பெண்ணிய பின்னொட்டுடன் இணைக்கிறது. பேச்சுவழக்கில் பயன்படுத்தப்படும் இந்தச் சொல், பலவிதமான மாற்றங்களை குறிக்கிறது. உதாரணத்திற்கு, ‘தமிழ் அடையாளத்தின் மேல் கொண்ட பற்று’, ‘(அதிகப்படியான அளவில்) பாரம்பரியத்தை கடைப்பிடிப்பவர்’ அல்லது ‘கட்டுக்கடங்காதவர்’ போன்ற குறிப்புகள் இவ்வார்த்தையில் உள்ளடங்கும்.
